Apendicitis ~ How long after surgery can you go back to work?

My husbands uncle is in a sanatorium right right away as i sort this as well as he's carrying operation during 1pm to have his apendix removed. They have been starting to do it with lazer operation initial as well as if which don't work they will do a unchanging surgery. He wants to lapse to work tomorrow. He functions 3rd change during walmart. There's no approach we would lapse to work a subsequent day. He's crazy…Can we discuss it me what i should discuss it him. Thanks. we need certain answers please.

Tomorrow?? That is a bit too soon for ANYONE. What exactly does he do at Walmart? Is he required to lift heavy objects, bend, stand or walk for any lenghty periods or does he have a desk job? Makes a huge difference.

First of all there is a huge difference between lazor surgery or a laperoscopy and full blown surgery where you are cut wide open. Tomorrow is Thursday, does he work weekends, b/c he can definately (barring any complications return to work Monday if he is an otherwise healthy & obviously determined man.

Chances are they will be able to do with the lazor if that is what he was told. Now I would not recommend returning to work and I am sure his physician will tell him the same thing, I mean he is having the procedure tomorrow afternoon, it is not even an early morning like 5 am surgery where he would have a whole extra half day for recovery.

I had laperoscpic surgery many years ago before i became preganat with triplets, it was an attempt to correct my severe endometriosis. Ordinarily, they make one small incission that is barely noticeable to the eye after it heels, but in my case the endometriosis was so bad that the doctor made a jugment call and went ahead and made three slightly larger incisions in addition to the original tiny tiny one. This was to cause me a miniscule of added discomfort for about one day. This was scheduled as day surgery , but th eonly problem was that the doctor was in Houston Texas, so I had to fly to the hospital for my operation. I flew to houston alone on a Thursday afternoon, got up at like 5 am (stayed in the hotel that is located in the hospital) went to the hospital at 6 was in recovery by 10 and caught the 5 p.m flight home, I could have stayed an additional day (but why stay in a hotel alone, rather than in the comfort of my own home?) it was a little bit uncomfortable on the plane, but I was not in any pain, I did not even need any narcotic pain medicaiton following the operation, and I have a very low tolerance for pain. I suppose that since I could fly I cpould have gone to work, I am an attorney, I doubt i could have gone to court, but i could have done paper work in m yoffice, i was lucky to have the weekend off, but was back at work onMonday without anyone even knowing that I had the operatrion.

When I had my appendix removed, that was a totally different story> mine ruptured requiring immediate emergency surgery. oes have chronic or accute appedecitis. ? My scar is still relatively small, so the incesion, not too big, but still they do cut muscle so it does hurt thei first few days to walk. ten days after my appendcitis I went to a freinds wedding in Lake Taho Nevada and had a wonderful time, I felt fully recovered, but I was not supposed to drive. After my hysterectomy and tummy tuck where my stomach was cut WIDE OPRN FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER AND WAS THE MOST PAINFUL EXPEREINCE I EVER EVER HAD, they recommend 6-8 weeks off, i wa sback at work in 2.

so if he has the lazer i bet he can go back tomorrow if he has to, except for one minor proble (most employers will NOT ALLOW YOU TO RETURN TO WORK THE DAY OF SURGERY B/C OF THE LONGERING DROWSINESS OF THE ANESCTHIA (CAN'T SPELL), OH I JUST RE READ , HE IS IN NOW, WANT TO GO BACK TOMORROW, YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO PLAY IT BY EAR. IF YOU CAN DRIVE HIM AND HE DOES NOT HAVE TO LIFT ANYTHING OVER TEN PPOUNDS, HE SOUNDS DETERMINED, I BET HE CAN DO IT JSUT FINE. GOOD LUCK

I had to have my apendix out this last 4th of July weekend. I went in on Friday the 3rd and ended up having surgery that night. I was in excruchiating pain for the next 48 hours.

I was in so much pain I was screaming when I awoke in the recovery room. The nurses even said, ‘jees I wonder why she is in so much pain’, they aren’t usually in this much pain.

Anyhow, the stupid morphine only worked for an hour at a time and i had to wait 3 hours in agony for another mere hour or so of relief. It was the worst 2-3 days of my life. I did make it out of the hospital late Sunday night; but still cannot do very much. I mean I have to be very careful when I go to sit; which I’m not supposed to bend at the waist. It hurts so…I can tell what I can and can’t do right now. I’m still taking percocet for the pain and just to make me sleep right now cause its the only thing to do while I recover…they say sleeping helps everything heal.

They said not even to attempt doing any house cleaning for a week.

I am a small girl, 100 lbs; maybe a big guy or gal could handle the surgery better and recover easier, I don’t know.

I don’t think anyone could return to work the following day, and definetly NOT the same day, I was SCREAMING in pain…not to scare anyone, but just the facts.

Wow you sound just like what i went thru and mine was july 3rd also. I came out of recovery screaming, scared my poor boyfriend to death, but it was awful. I am 1 week post op and still have pain. I am 194 lbs so i dont think size makes a differance.
