I have to discuss it me trainer which we need to have surgery, teenager surgery, I’d usually be out for about the week. He is the jerk as well as nobody likes him in my department. He has yelled during people for withdrawal early since they’re sick, he’s yelled during me for being out for 3 days to be by my failing father’s side. we am fearful to speak to him. What do we do?

You should have a doctor’s note with exactly why and how long you cannot work. With that as back-up, you should be able to write a memo to both your boss as well as HR.
If you really feel uncomfortable with your boss, start with HR, and let them know that you don’t feel comfortable bringing it up with your boss alone. Ask if they can accompany you to the meeting where you inform him.
Have a speedy recovery, and wishes for a better working environment!

Is there a Human Resources Department where you work? If so, I suggest you make an appointment with the director or a staff member of the HR dept and discuss your situation. You should have the back-up of the dept when you discuss your situation with your boss.
This guy doesn’t want anyone to "shake-up" the office routine by having people call off sick or for other reasons (like your father’s death).
You will be giving him enough notice to have your duties covered, if necessary. 1 week isn’t a big deal. Many are out sick with the flu for a week and life still goes on.
good luck.

I’m guessing your boss has had people ‘phone in sick’ when they’re really not before. That’s why he won’t allow people to take time off, because he think’s they’re lying so they can have an off day for no reason.
Perhaps try seeing if you can get a signed note from your doctor or surgeon saying you will be out of work for a week because of this surgery and give it to your boss. Perhaps provide the phone number for the surgeon/doctor in case your boss want’s to phone the doctor/surgeon to make sure you’re not faking or something.

document, document, document. By law he cannot even ask you what the surgery is. You simply put it in writing make sure your desk is covered and let him know that this is something that has to be done.
Not sure how large your company is but you should also CC human resources

First, get a doctor’s note which will hopefully state an estimate time of absence. If there are any forms that need to be completed in the event of a short-term leave, get that done too.
Then, I would write a letter informing him of the dates you plan to be out, and attach a copy of the doctor’s letter to it. If he gives you any crap, then deal directly with HR. If you need surgery, you need surgery, don’t let an imbecile like him worry you.

Regardless of his attitude, you need the surgery and you need the time . . . if he won’t give you permission, you may want to talk to you HR person.
A boss who yells isn’t worth my respect. If I were you I’d start looking for a new job working for someone who is less of a jerk.
