How is it any different from plastic surgery?

My crony has braces as well as is all opposite cosmetic surgery, though we do not assimilate how it’s any different. You’re still regulating something automatic etc., to change your earthy appearance.

Opinions?
Okay, to explain my meaning: if someone has the tiny opening in their teeth which won’t means them any pain, as well as they repair which to have their grin improved or whatever, how is it any opposite from, say, the nose job?

Really good question. Surprisingly the definition of plastic surgery is vague enough that you can categorize ortho treatment in it but it again deals with surgery. (Plastic surgery is a medical specialty concerned with the correction or restoration of form and function.)
Orthodontics is dentofacial orthopedics and has both surgical and non surgical aspects. There is craniofacial surgery which falls in the plastic surgery realm and non surgical dentofacial orthopedics which is orthodontic surgery. So when you get down to the basics, its not a part of plastic surgery. Guess you can’t call your friend a hypocrite.

Well straightening your teeth doesn’t just fix physical appearance. It stops your teeth from growing into each other and if you allow that the teeth will fall out, making it harder to eat and leaving it easier for infections.

Braces don’t require you to go under anestetics and you also don’t have to be cut into.

depends whether she really needs them or if it’s just for appearance

WAyyyyy different. PLastic surgery is totally optional, and braces aren’t totally optional. You get actual surgery with plastic surgery, not with braces.

Could be that she’s against the concept of surgery just for the sake of looking better. Braces don’t count as surgery, have a far smaller risk of complications, and aren’t just for cosmetic purposes. Having straighter teeth helps reduce the chances of jaw problems in the future, as well as allowing better chewing.

you mean braces for your teeth
    wtf???
how on earth is that plastic surgery?
plastic surgery uses a KNIFE and ANESTHETICS
and REMOVES or ADDS the concerned BODY PARTS

Plastic surgery is usually something people want to do. Getting braces is something the dentist says you have to do.

well, i’m personally against unnecessary plastic surgery. you bring up a good point about the braces but they increase the health of your teeth and i think that’s the difference.

Well in truth orthodontic work can often affect function as well as appearance, but then again so can plastic surgery. A nose job for instance can fix a deviated septum. At the end of the day I always find that people are more tolerant and accepting of things they might need themselves. So if you friend has a straight nose, good sized breasts, etc. then she thinks anyone who gets these things is superficial and silly. If she had issues herself she might change her tune.

No your friend is right :) Braces aren’t just physical appearence, I mean that’s like saying using a straightner or curler on your hair is plastic surgery. TECH speaking yes I could see where your coming from, and seeing it as plastic surgery. But the other aspect it’s not anywhere near the same caliber as say getting your ass enhanced. So geez, this question has two interesting sides, I guess the answer depends on how you interpret it? hmm.. Good question

braces are worn not to only straighten your teeth, but it fixes other problems.
Through time, crooked teeth can cause pain, overlap with another. It can cause gum diseases, and many other things.
so really, stop forcing her views against this.
she is great to have strong beliefs about plastic surgery….braces are not just for appearance.
Also, look at it this way….if it was plastic surgery, she wouldn’t have to walk around with metal wires on her teeth for years and look terrible.

It is different in a couple of ways. Braces are not just used to improve appearance. They are usually put on due to malocclusion (an irregular bite) or to correct some other tooth problem. Secondly plastic surgery involves anesthesia and cutting which can lead to death if not performed by a skilled surgeon. Sometimes even in the most ideal circumstances plastic surgery can be deadly. Case in point Kanye West’s mother.

I know people are saying that braces arent simply for cosmetic reasons, but the same applies to plastic surgery. I know plently of people who have had plastic surgery NOT simply for cosmetic reasons.

When you get braces, its helping your teeth. Braces act as a well, lets say a "teacher" to direct your teeth the way they are supposed to go.If you don’t get braces, you teeth can end up with decay, discoloration, loss of teeth, and they won’t look very healthy. So braces help your teeth look HEALTHY. When you have plastic surgery, it is not healthy. You are putting and taking out something your body does not think is normal. Sure, plastic surgery helps your appearance, but is it really worth it? Plastic surgery has caused many health issues to men and women of all ages. But braces on the other hand help you and most likely never have problems.
