How long will it take to recover from keyhole surgery for a meniscus tear ?

I have only been told i have to have keyhole operation ( orthoscopic) for the ‘Bucket Tear’ / meniscus rip in my knee. we was wondering has any one been by this, could we discuss it me what to expect, & how prolonged would it be prior to i can get behind to work ?
Many thanx for any replies.

It depends : Are they performing a menisectomy (removing the meniscus – complete or partial?) Or meniscus repair ??!!

It also depends on the place of the tear and if they’ll do anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. It takes the reconstructed ligament approximately 9 months to heal

Healing after arthroscopy of meniscal tear depends upon age, weight, and general fitness.

Repaired meniscal tears heal if there is adequate blood supply and tissue stability. A stable knee is therefore important, thus you might have to wear a cast.

it is possible to bear weight (partial weight bearing) on the surgically treated leg by using crutches for the first 7 – 10 days after surgery. You may stop using crutches when comfortable.

Supervised physical therapy often is started by the second to third day after surgery. You will have to follow a physiotherapy regime (again it depends on the above factors) but generally it’s 6 to 10 weeks, and you can progress to a self-directed program in a health club.

You might be able to go back to work in 2 weeks if it’s a partial menisectomy.

Good Luck & Get Well Soon =)*

im not a doctor , but i advise you to have 2nd and 3rd opinion .
some doctors want to profit by operating on a patient .
    or
they are aggressive in treating a case .

    good luck.

Note : some hospitals /doctors choose the most expensive treatment even if it isnt the best .
they do this when the patient is insured .
    so , watch out .
i wish you the best of luck.
