I’m picking up my kitten from the oldster in the integrate of hours. He only had his initial shots as well as check-up along with his fix surgery. How should we caring for him after? Do we need to do anything special for him? How whill he be acting?
When you get him from the vet, he should be awake and ready to go home! The neuter surgery is done under general anesthesia. It is a quick surgery and only takes about 5 minutes. Since they are not sedated long, kittens usually don’t take long to wake up and are not too groggy.
He will only have two tiny incisions in his scrotum sac. There is little to no bleeding. There are no external sutures. He will have been shaved in this area, but the hair will grow back quickly.
When you bring him home, put him in a quiet place and leave his water & food bowls and litter box where he can get to them. He will probably be hungry, since you couldn’t feed him last night. But if he doesn’t eat a whole lot, that is normal too.
The only special instructions I remember is if you use a kitty litter that is ‘dusty’ to change it for a few days. That prevents the dust from getting in his incisions when he gets in his litter box and starts digging and urinating.
If you want to see pictures of a cat neuter, they are in the links below. If you don’t that is fine, I used to volunteer in a vet clinic and someday want to be a veterinary technician, so I find it very interesting.
