Any suggest or links to websites would be muchly appreciated ![]()

Anything they can quietly chew, such as bully sticks, deer antlers, raw meaty bones, etc will be good. Kong toys, stuffed with a mixture of his normal kibble and some canned food, and then frozen, can be a good way to occupy him as well. There’s also a variety of puzzle toys out there for purchase, or you can make a game with some plastic cups and treats. Put the treat under one of the cups while he’s not looking, and then let him knock over the cups to find it. Someone suggested on here a few days ago to take a muffin tin, place treats in it, and put tennis balls over each muffin cup. That would be good as well, as long as you make sure the tennis balls don’t roll away when he pushes them off, as that would encourage him to chase them.
Add: Depending on the type of surgery and the vet, some activity may well be allowed. Following my dog’s knee surgery, they wanted her to do small amounts of walking beginning the day after. And even if no activity is allowed, there are quiet games that can be played with the dog lying down. When I did have a dog that needed to be on crate rest following a surgery and was not allowed walking, the vet recommended I take him out of the crate on-leash and do just these sorts of things with him to keep him from getting overly frustrated and injuring himself in the crate.

The dog will have to be crated, and only taken out to potty, so NO games will be allowed.

Your dog will need to be put on crate rest for a month or two. Mobility will be limited. When my pup (pom) broke his leg, he slept for about a day before returning to his hyper self. He was to be on crate rest for 6 weeks but it was nearly impossible. To "work" him we did a lot of training and "brain games" like "what cup is the treat under". Mental games will often tire a dog.

When my three-year-old Dobermann ruptured her cruicate & had TPLO surgery, the recovery sheet when she was discharged provided information on how to optimise her recovery, which included restricted on lead exercise & no play which could destabilise the joint.
The surgery can be a complete success, but if the owner does not follow the after care to the letter, it can easily be undone & the surgical procedure will fail, causing the dog pain & further surgery.
My b*tch could not play any games for two months because she was not allowed to chase/move quickly/over use the joint, & for the first week was confined to the house, then allowed five minute walks four times in the second week, ten minutes in the third, twenty in the fourth ect…

The condition of your pet seems a little serious. Its best that you consult a vet regarding which activities is allowed for your dog at that situation. If not possible, try consulting from this site http://bit.ly/c6qYat – you can get professional veterinarian’s advice in 15 minutes.
