CBC – blood cell count to make sure you are not sick already and to look at the number of platelets you have. Surgeons will not operate if you have less than 50,000 platelets. Normal is between 250-400 thousand.
Chem7 – electrolyte levels, hydration and general body chemistry, homeostasis for anasthesia tolerance
Type and Cross – to match blood to you in case they need to give you blood during surgery.
Generally you would have been given both a urine pregnancy test and a blood pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy for most surgeries, so that the proper precautions can be taken if you are pregnant. Hope this helps.
They will test it for you blood type first of all. They will also check your iron level, blood oxygen level, and look for any abnormalities. They will also probably test for dieseases.
usually a CBC (complete blood count), chem 7 – which checks the electrolyte levels in your blood. Maybe some others also according to what disease processes you have or what type of surgery you are having.
They test for blood type and blood count. They test for illnesses that indicate weak internal organs and for medications that may interact with the anesthesia or post-surgical medications.
hmm.. i think "Blood Typing" so they know whether what type of blood they will get at the blood bank IN CASE you need it… then, I think for Hepatitis B.. medical staff are very cautious about this disease….
you have the RIGHT to ask your doctor or nurses what this and other tests are for… go and ask them, dont be shy…
