i have had my tonsils taken out before,after the surgery they took me into the recover room and they fed me frozen apple juice while i was sleep i woke up and i said where am i they said settle down dont talk let your voice rest i said unhuh in a mumble and i was releasted the same day .they asked me did i want to stay i said no cause i was scared so if u read this u wil under stand oh and 1 more thing when they take you in the surgery room they told me to count to 5 thenn i was knocked out
If you don’t have to get your tonsils out, don’t get them out. This is the worst pain I have ever experienced, I am 19 years old male and I can’t stress enough how much pain I’ve gone through during this recovery process, even while following all instructions. I’m on day 7 after my surgery, writing this while my pain medication is kicking in (which lasts such a short amount of time) – if you don’t have to get this done, DON’T. It hurts like hell, like throat is being incinerated and ears stabbed
I have strept throat, I hate it when I get it. Almost like.. 5 times a year. I can’t breathe half the time and always get it at the worst times.. I don’t know if I have tonsilitis but I want them to be taken out anyways.
i want mine out. I have always got colds that end up with swollen tonsils, and white things that hang to it. I even ended in the hospital for a week because the pain was so bad, and my tonsils were so swollen that I could not swallow anything, not even my siliva. Doc refused to take them out though…
kamakazi612, that hanging thing is called the uvula. According to textbook definitions, “many physicians feel that the it is a vestigial anatomic structure without a significant function, while others feel that it has a role in speech and swallowing in that it.” Meh! Whatever the case is, its pretty cool looking! XD
The older you get the worse the recovery is. That’s what I keep hearing. Got mine out yesterday. It sucks but staying well hydrated makes it easier. I’d recommend having a humidifier on while you sleep to minimize throat dryness. Pick up some stuff called Tech 2000, it’s an oral rinse that helps with the mucus that will build up. I had to get mine at a tattoo shop. Just got it and it helped make my mouth feel much cleaner immediately.
Oh well we have to get it done I got tonsilitis 12 times last year and it hurst like hell…I just hope we`re not in that much pain but still dont worry for the cigarettes my mom got her apendics removed and she could’nt smoke for about a month and felt like she was PMSing everyday but after that she had a smoke and was ok lol =P…
i went to the nose throat and ear specialist and he was like “i won’t lie to u. it’s going to hurt” and apparently my face was like O_O to make it worse they said I couldn’t drink or smoke (obviously u can’t but come on!!!)
@iL0veMuFFinZ – I swear a lot in general. It’s an aussie thing ;p
Omg you’re not the only one me to im terrified im getting mine removed in a week from now ,im 14 but they say that whem you’re like 8 and 10 you basecly dont feel anything but from 11 and 12 you’re in pain but its not compared when your in your teens …!!
Ps: Who doesnt swear when your scared (iL0veMuFFinz)
Don’t be scared to be put under. I had my tonsils taken out a few years ago and I was always scared of surgery. They gave a sedative to calm me down before the surgery, then, I got the gas mask. I didn’t even remember it because of the sedative. A couple days later I had a minor complication & had to go under again, only that time they gave me the liquid anaesthesia, everything became fuzzy then I was out, kind of like falling asleep. Trust me after you get it done you won’t regret it!
i get the little stones. i hate it! i want my tonsils out! idont want to have this problem get really bad. thats why. but then again im scared at the surgery well acually at the anastheisa since they say its general the one they use for the prosedure.
I am 35 years old and had my tonsils out yesterday 2 hours away because I moved. It’s not half as bad as everyone makes it sound. I also had a Cyst removed from my ear. Take your pain medication on time and it’s not that bad. I smoked 3 cigs so far with no issues. My doctor knows that I smoke and he didn’t tell me not to at all or give me a date when I could. Address the question, don’t just say “You shouldn’t smoke anyway!” Tools
