In June of 2007 I had L-5 S-1 postero lateral disc effected the right leg with numbness and stabbing pain and then eventually lost all feeling in my foot and strength in my leg. The doctor made a one inch inscion, went in and cleaned out the disc with no fusion and I have to say the surgery was a sucess. The first 4-6 months after were hard with rehab and any swelling or inflamation would trigger the nerves to act up. Now over two years after I'm very thankful to say that I workout 2-3 times per week, play sports and also trying to get back into the military.

Awesome video. I have had this procedure twice. The recovery takes about 4-5 months and is not too bad. It depends how hard you rehab and listen to your doctors. I am doing everything that I used to do before the surgery with few to no limitations.

I had disectomy 2 months ago. I still have some pain in the wound region, feel like something is stingin inside, not the same pain I used to feel before, I guess it is part of the wounds of surgery. I feel some pain when I sit in the coxis area, but I can move freely, I can run, I can jump, I can drive, I can bend, I mean, I absolute would change again my past sintomatology for my current few hassles due the surgery. Do it, do not hesitate. I wasted 10 years trying to convince myself livin pain

At only 17, I would talk to your doc, and perhaps explore other options first, such as Physical Therapy. It also depends on the severity of the herination, and the pain it's causing. I spent 8 months trying all the non-surgical options, but nothing worked. Finally I had this (exact) surgery, and that took care of it.
