interesting – artist’s visions and how the differ
there was enough of that arm for my taste-not tail-like in my eye at all-it was the missing, forshortened arm from the photo I wanted back in the vector shape

I tried using a photo I found that had a similar problem as a shape rather than a photo-what i did was lasso the forearm portion and rotated it to the postion I wanted then I simply filled in the missing part with a tone similar to the original photo-after that I followed your instructions for the silouhette shape and-voila!
I will go back and try your shape shifting idea and see which is the quicker-I want to use iconistic shapes “warholed” as the bkgrnd
for a “Bye Bye Birdie” poster-THANKS

See the side I did do was looking like a “tail” to me, that’s the arm that bothered me after your suggestion.

oops I guess I did the wrong side…but you get the idea. You could probably just copy the right arm and flip it and position it symmetrically on her left side after having amputating that arm.

You’re welcome! This is just basic vector stuff. I hope to have time to show some more advanced applications of these tools to create “alternative” illustrations in Photoshop…check out my old shanzcan site. You might be surprised to find more vector tutorials in the shanzcan tutorials section in PDF format-this was before Camtasia and for Photoshop 6 or 7 I think.

No problem, it was a good suggestion and I do think, from the comments I’ve been getting that there are folks out there that are interested in the vector tools in Photoshop because they just don’t own Illustrator. I have a few Photoshop vector projects I did solely in Photoshop that you can see on my Shanzcan site in Gallery I. I’ll post a hyperlink to that site in the more info panel of this vid.

Thanks for addressing my original query-I suppose illustrator might be easier per some other comments but I use only PS so this is a help to me-uaing the same technique one could then rotate the OTHER arm out for a more symeterical silouhette (LOL remember I didnt like the fingers growing out of the shoulder) now and forever YOU are the best!!!
Thanks again

I have been using Photoshop since 3.0 and I have never messed with the pen tool until your recent Vector videos……thanks for the insight!

Yes of course. The Pen tool was made for Vector Programs like Illustrator. It is the better program for this but for folks who only have Photoshop, this will give them a very basic foundation of the Pen Tool & its use for creating simple vector shapes. Later, we’ll expand upon this and some effects that can be applied for a more illustrative look, even in Photoshop.

Thanks now go PRACTICE! That’s what it takes. Once you get it down using the pen tool & functions, you can create many illustrative looks in Photoshop &/or Illustrator, that are scalable and can have a surreal look.
