That may be true, SephynnXx, but, Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer have been voted “Best Keyboardist” and “Drummer of the year” during their career. Can anyone say the same for any of the musicians in those bands you named?
Actually yeah they can,Mikael of Opeth was voted musician of the year, and Danny Carey of Tool was voted drummer of the year countless times. Oh yeah, and Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree and KING CRIMSON has been voted numerous times as well as recieved countless drum awards. Popularity is a bitch in the industry, if ELP did’nt strike a deal they would’ve been just another obscure prog band with a cult following. There are many bands alot better then they are. How about Floyd, or THE BEATLES!
hahaha opeth haha, porcupine tree man as you have said they have ELP as an influence. If it was not for ELP, the bands that you are mentioning probably would not be the same because ELP was innovating as many other bands like Genesis or yes so do not say that Opeth, Dream theater etc. are more creative because ELP was one of the bands that changed all the musical field of progressive rock
I would have to say the biggest influence in prog rock on all the bands I mentioned and we mentioned was PINK FLOYD and KING CRIMSON. ELP has sited Floyd as a major inspiration, and King Crimson sited Floyd as a inspiration. Pink Floyd is the biggest, and most inspiring prog rock band of them all. Ask all these bands that same question and you’ll recieve probably the same answer. I love ELP but, they are far from the greatest prog rock band. ELP was not that big of a influence on Opeth. CAMEL!!
well im agree with you that pink floyd is a great influence and i dare to say that pink floyd should be the influence of any band because their music is magical and everyone i know likes pink floyd, even though they like pop they know at least 5 songs of pink floyd so i think that their music is universally known but i will not underrate grupos like yes genesis elp etc. so i think that you are right that pink floyd is an influence for many many groups
This is really cool! It’s great to see them working through this stuff. What is this a clip from? It seems like a clip from a longer documentary. Anyone know?
“Pink Floyd were an English rock band who(…) earned recognition (…) as they evolved, for their progressive rock music.”
As a comment about PF’s progressive rock work has been there since 2005, I think it’s fair to say that this is the consensus view of contributors on their work.
The inventiveness…the genius….the originality….the energy….the beauty…….the uniqueness…….and the sheer creativity……..kids of today should be seriously worried. They may never experience 1% of this.
ELP is great but their is plenty of creative bands, some more and less creative then ELP. ELP are pioneers and legends, but there is plenty of bands far more creative. Dream Theater, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Green Carnation, The Flower Kings, Tool, and so many bands have ELP as a influence, but are still just as creative….
I am fascinated by your reply ….I agree with you but all the bands you mentioned are non commercial compared with Beach Boys, ELP, Deep Purple, CSNY, and many more. So are these other bands TOO creative just to be different or why are these other bands successful commercially and are household names while the bands you mention are not big time names. There must be a reason. What is the connection ?
Because most of today’s youth is satisfied with the generic, dumbed down music the industry has been feeding us for years and I am sick and tired of it.
