@JackJamesElias They’ve got you on bypass anyway. The shit they’re doing to your heart during this type of surgery would probably kill you if they didn’t have bypass.

With all that poking around, I wonder if someone who has premature beats or a fibrilation problem would have that happen during the surgery. What do they do if the heart starts in with a lot of premature beats or a-fib or v-fib?

It is an amazing surgery. I had it done 4 years ago. What this video doesn’t say is that the recovery time is short!!! I was out of the hospital in 4 days and back to full activity in a week. I came home and was able to take care of my 2 year old twins because there is no rehab required.

Had this surgery myself and am still singing the praises of my surgeon 4 years later.

Having had this surgery myself, I can say it was a true life saver. I couldn’t live for more than a year without it and I had twin babies at home so the traditional surgery was out of the question for me. I couldn’t go 12 weeks without taking care of my kids. I had the surgery done in New York and was out of the hospital on day 4. The only rehab with this surgery is “if it hurts, don’t do it”. No going to physical therapy. If you need mitral valve repair or replacement.. This is the way
to go.

I actually had this surgery done in New York by Mehmet Oz.. It improved my quality of live tremendously. I left the hospital on the 4th day after surgery and there is no rehab at all. With this surgery, the only restriction is “if it hurts, don’t do it”… God bless modern medicine! It is much more painful than the traditional method but worth it for the lower recovery time

What is the chance of survival on this surgery? I saw near the beginning when the guy was sewing something, while the heart was beating and flopping around.. I don’t even know what to say on how he pulled that off without damaging the heart.

@LethalMag3 Very well said. Good heart surgeons dedicate a decade+ studying their practice, followed up by a lifetime of intense and demanding work hours.
I have so much respect for these people. They take on immense legal liability in order to improve someone’s, often a stranger’s, quality of life. That takes serious courage.
Yes, the human body is marvelous. But more so are the men and women who sacrifice so much, and risk even more to preserve and repair it. This is a hero at work.
