I tore but didn’t completly sever my Achiles Tendon in July 2008. I had surgery in November 2008. Right after I had the staples removed, that area swelled up into a large bump. Had physical thearpy and iontophoresis to get swelling down.

Hi guys, well I am in the same position as many of you are…I ruptured it a month back and I am in the casket still…My surgery was done in India and I am still in India…however I want to ask questions..
1. My casket is there but I still bend the leg a little and it does not pain me, is that ok? Can we bend our leg a little bit.
2. My casket will be removed in next 10 days….and then I will start the therapy classes. Is this what the procedure is?

ok… 01/29 the ankle and leg are starting to loosen up… it was very tight initially I am currently walking with a limp but as time goes on it seems to be getting better and better.
The ankle area is still quite swollen I had a massage last friday 01/23 which seemed to help getting the blood moving.

ok… on 01/19 was back in for my next post-op check in… at this time the surgeon recommended that I remove the walking cast/boot and start walking very gingerly.

ok… so on 12/18 I had my cast removed and the staples were taken out. Not an overly pleasant procedure having the staples removed. During this visit was I was fitted and equipped with a removable 2 piece plastic walking cast/boot. Could not weight bare and still required crutches.

My doctor told me the tendon repair won’t be as bad as the first surgery but I’ve already cancelled it once. That said, the pain I have will determine when I have this second surgery. If you are young and active, I can understand your insanity. Actually if you’re older, it’s still difficult! Hang in there, do what the doctor orders and have patience.

I ruptured mine on 1/9. I had surgery on Tuesday and am in a cast now. I can’t believe how long this is going to take.

Be patient and rest that leg typically you should be in a cast for 12 to 14 weeks and then therapy will start. It may takes as long as 10 months or longer before your walking normally. I ruptured mine on 12/23/08 surgery on the the 26. I’ll continue to post what may be speeding up recovery.

ok… had my surgery last Thursday (11/20/2008)… had my first post-Op checkup… they removed my “back-slab” and all looked good. The incision site was longer than expected… it was 6 to 8 inches long and had 18 staples. I was put in a full cast (vs a back-slab) and have my next check-in on 12/17. Will post again after that.

wow, u’re still in a hard cast? they took mine off 2 weeks after the surgery. now it’s been 7 weeks and i’m finally off the crutches. it’s still tough to walk tho. the whole recovery is just taking forever… i started swimming, that helps a lot! maybe in a week or so you can start doing it too! so yours got literaly cut by a skate? that’s horrible! i got kicked quite hard playing basketball… but your case is definitely worse. feel better and good luck w it!

it’s been about 5 weeks since i had the surgery, i only had the cast on for the first 2 weeks tho, and since then i have the boot. still cant put any pressure on it for the next couple of weeks… i cannot wait to start rehab and get rid of crutches!!! i wonder how long it will really take me to get back to running and playing sports again… everyone says it’ll be 6 months at least, is it really that long?

I rupture mine about 18months ago. was in a cast for 6 weeks, which had to be renewed every 2 weeks, with a slight adjustment of the foot and then recaste. when the caste comes off make sure that you keep stretching the tendon, as this will help with getting back mobility. Sorry to hear bout that, and hope your recovery goes well.

I’m due to have surgery on 4th oct. I have torn achilles tendons in both feet. Two wks in a cast then a snow boot and 2 months of physio and when my right leg is ok i will have to have the same all over again in my left foot. It will take 6-7months in total for both achilles to be done and for me to be back on my feet. Not looking forward to it as i have a 7year old son to look after!
