Tyra Banks being ignorant/racist-like upon Asian Eyelid Surgery. Asians get operation to raise their looks, only similar to everybody else who gets (PS) Plastic Surgery. Whites, Blacks, etc. POINT BEING, NOT EVERYONE HAS THE SAME REASONS. NO ONE WANTS TO LOOK WHITE, END OF STORY. @yolanda7911 i don’t think she was wrong, yolanda. i think she highlighted an issue that affects all non-white group -, the eurocentric beauty standard. this girl wasn’t being honest about why she had eyelid surgery. it’s not like tyra was saying “you shouldn’t have had it.” she was just asking her to face the fact that she did it to look more euro just like black women get weaves instead of wearing just their natural hair.

i know about that whole double eyelid craze. i’m asian, and i know based from family members and friends that some asians are obsessed with this double eyelid thing. and also the wish for a less flat nose…

That’s like saying all people who get nose jobs to improve their breathing are inventing lies about a respiratory condition and only get the procedure because they want a European nose. And just in case all of you forgot or something, white women can have have curly hair and wavy hair in addition to straight hair. OMG!

@TiffanyAffinity wtih all due respect, she indicated that all the kids in her apple valley school (mostly white) made fun of her because she had “chinky” eyes. then she made an excuse about a droopy eyelid, which tyra correctly called her out on (at 25?). weave also comes in all different types: straight, wavy, curly…the point is that because certain features and textures/lengths of hair look too ethnic, people change the way they look to fit the mold. it’s reality!

@jwanderson06 If people are “changing the way they look to fit the mold”, then how come Koreans who live in Korea get double-eyelid surgery? Most Koreans have single eyelids, so wouldn’t having double eyelids break you apart from the crowd?

@TiffanyAffinity that’s the effect of the european beauty standard: non-white people who have features that are too “ethnic” are pressured to change the way they look to in order to fit in with the acceptable image. even the dr. said that korean women who don’t have their eyes “opened” have a hard time getting jobs, especially in media. it’s the reason why black people use skin lighteners, straighten their hair and/or use weaves, and it’s exaclty why most non-white people get nose jobs too.

Hypothesis: Asians want to follow the Eurocentric beauty standard. Observation: Europeans like to tan. Asians want to stay pale. Conclusion: Asians don’t want to tan because they think looking pale is pretty. Similarly, they think having double eyelids is pretty. Therefore, Asians don’t give a rat’s ass about looking white.

I really can’t stand how Tyra constantly makes everything about herself. I know that hair is a big deal in the black community, however, I don’t believe fake hair is the equivalent of facial plastic surgery.

Just like many ppl prefer smooth looking skin over a skin with freckles all over … tyra got a blonde hair, thats her chioce! i dont think blonder is prettier than black hair… but having pretty texture hair is a different topic.. that asian girl didn’t dye her hair so how exactly is she trying to be more Caucasian?
